Ford Capri - Full Review

Ford is continuing its trend of reviving iconic models with electric powertrains, following in the footsteps of the Mustang and Explorer. Now, the legendary Ford Capri has made its return—this time as a fully electric coupe-SUV. While the classic two-door sports coupe may be a thing of the past, the new electric Capri is set to carve its own path, combining nostalgia with modern performance and practicality.

Performance

You can choose between two configurations: a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive model producing 286hp and a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version with 340hp, which will get you from 0-100km/h in an impressive 6.4 seconds. The rear-wheel-drive setup provides a dynamic, responsive feel on the road, making it ideal for drivers who appreciate precision handling, while the all-wheel-drive model boosts traction and power, giving a confident, controlled ride that’s well-suited to both city driving and open-road adventures.

Range and Charging

The Ford Capri is well-prepared for longer journeys, with the single-motor model delivering an impressive range of up to 627 km on a full charge, while the dual-motor version reaches up to 595 km.

Both models support fast, efficient charging: the 79kWh AWD model charges up to 185kW, taking just 26 minutes to go from 10% to 80%, while the 77kWh rear-wheel-drive version charges at 135kW, achieving the same boost in under 30 minutes. A 7kW home charger will top up the battery overnight in around 13 hours. With Type 2 and CCS charging compatibility, the Capri ensures you’re always ready to hit the road.

Design and Interior

While the new Capri is inspired by the classic model, its resemblance to the original may not be the easiest to notice. Retro elements are subtle, with the rear quarter window and the front-end design—dubbed the "dogbone"—that vaguely nod to the original Capri. Even the headlights carry a hint of familiarity. Ford’s design team has emphasised that maintaining a Capri-like silhouette from afar was a key objective.

Inside, the Capri borrows much of its layout from the Explorer, though there are some nostalgic touches. The seats, for instance, feature integrated headrests reminiscent of the classic Capri, and the steering wheel has a single spoke positioned at 6 o'clock as a nod to its roots. A standout feature when it comes to tech, you get a 14.6-inch infotainment screen that you can slide up and down to whatever angle suits you best, along with a lockable area that sits behind it for some extra storage.

The interior offers enough space for three kids in the back, with just a touch of elbow-bumping, while the flat floor provides good legroom all around. Ford has positioned this new electric Capri as "the ultimate getaway car," offering an impressive 572 litres of boot space. This deep cargo area maximises storage, and the adjustable boot floor is perfect for stowing charging cables—a handy feature given the lack of a front trunk. Up front, there's a spacious “Mega Console,” adding 17 litres of storage for extra convenience.

Cost Considerations

The entry-level Ford Capri Select model starts at €45,798 for the 55kWh version, while the Premium trim begins at €50,990. With its size and price point, the Capri sits comfortably alongside competitors like the BMW iX2, Cupra Tavascan, and VW ID.5.

Despite being the base model, the Capri Select is packed with features that make it far from basic. Standard perks include keyless entry, a massaging driver’s seat, heated seats and steering wheel, wireless phone charging, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a reversing camera. The 14.6-inch infotainment screen offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and navigation that can find and incorporate charging stops along your route. Plus, the Capri comes with a full range of safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a door alert system to warn of nearby cyclists or vehicles.

For those who opt for the Premium trim, additional upgrades include fully adaptive Matrix LED headlights, a high-quality B&O sound system, 20-inch wheels, adjustable ambient lighting, and a range of stylish interior touches.

Conclusion

The all-electric Ford Capri brings a fresh twist to a nostalgic name, With its powerful performance, impressive range, and spacious, family-friendly interior, it’s well-suited for everyday adventures and long trips alike. While it may look a bit different from its iconic predecessor, the new Capri stands out in its own right, providing a blend of style, comfort, and innovation that’s hard to beat. For those looking to make the switch to electric without sacrificing personality or performance, the Capri makes a compelling choice.
